Friendster Rant.

Customer (Dan Broschart) 03/30/2004 12:27 AM
You do have a clue why people would be spreading rumors of you deleting friends don't you? If you do, then tell people what exactly the problem is, instead of ignoring it. The problem, which I and others have witnessed, is all of my friends' appear to have zero friends. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it lasts for more than an hour.

Your site also has some supremely bothersome issues with server-side caching of pages, such as when I get an email notification that a new message has been sent to me, but when I log in and check messages the new one isn't there... or even worse, a few hours after the message does show up it then dissapears again, only to come back after several more hours. I am a net savey person, I build online stores, so I know it is a server issue, and not a problem with my browser since it happens with others who are also on different ISP's.

I am not with AOL, but with a local company that doesn't use proxy servers.

Compared to www.tribe.net your site is slower, you shrink uploaded photos too much (and compress them too much), limit the number too much, and I think you also have a general ban on nudity (which is definitely a draw for people).

That is all of my constructive criticism for you, and yes I do note the fact that you claim to be in 'beta.'

Is there currently a legal battle between tribe and you?

Friendster email delivery problems:
There is a known problem with our email server between last Wednesday and today. We are working on fixing this. Once the servers are caught up the emails will be sent and you will see the updates in your account. Please be patient while we address and fix this problem. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Emails that can’t be deleted or disappear/reappear:
This is a maverick email problem that is happening with a few accounts (emails not showing up or reappearing, or can’t be deleted). We are working on this but don't have a timeframe for a fix yet. Check back with us in a couple weeks and open a new ticket.

Please remember we are still a “beta” site and we are working on all these issues as quickly as possible.
Thanks,
CS

Heh. You didn't really read what I wrote, did you? You just rewrote the answers to the questions the system thought I was asking.

My questions had very very little to do with email, if anything the email notifications came EARLY.

But the only reason I wrote was to provide useful feedback about your site, to help make it better.

------ if you feel like saying "screw performance reviews" waste time reading the following:

A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink.

"Why of course", comes the reply.

The first man then asks: "Where are you from?"

"I'm from Ireland", replies the second man.

The first man responds: "You don't say, I'm from Ireland too! Let's have another round to Ireland."

"Of Course", replies the second man.

Curious, the first man then asks: "Where in Ireland are you from?"

"Dublin", comes the reply.

"I can't believe it", says the first man. "I'm from Dublin too! Let's have another drink to Dublin."

"Of course", replies the second man.

Curiosity again strikes and the first man asks: "What school did you go to?"

"Saint Mary's", replies the second man. "I graduated in '62."

"This is unbelievable!", the first man says. "I went to Saint Mary's and I graduated in '62, too!"

About that time in comes one of the regulars and sits down at the bar.

"What's been going on?", he asks the bartender.

"Nothing much," replies the bartender. "The O'Malley twins are drunk again."

The home page has images that do not line up correctly in Mozilla; such as the grey “Find Friends” link or “View All”

Dan --

Thanks for writing in to report this. We've heard from several Mozilla users that there are some layout problems. Please make sure you're using the most recent version of your flavor of Mozilla, as that's the one our QA team uses to test each new release.

You might also try clicking Shift + Reload to force your browser to request the most recent version of a Tribe.net Web page.

If these suggestions don't work for you, please let me know which Web browser and operating system you use, and I'll do my best to assist.

I have the most recent version (Firefox) and am using Win XP. It was surely reloaded as well.

But for like 1 hour I did see crazy layout items, but you guys fixed that pretty quickly… lots of thick grey bars – it actually wasn’t too bad looking.

Oh, and Walt, a great feature would be to have the ability to search for all posts (in the tribes) by a person in any forum – or at least be able to search for those of people in your network.

Dan --

Not a bad idea at all. We've been trying to figure out the best way to implement such a feature, so keep your eye on the site.
